About Off The Matt

Off The Matt delivers exceptional mental skills training programs, specifically aimed at improving both the performance and wellbeing of individuals and teams.

Through applying the science of positive psychology, Off The Matt draws upon the research from mindfulness, neuroscience, acceptance and commitment therapy and self-compassion, to provide evidence-based, contemporary and engaging training programs specifically intended to meet these goals.

Off the Matt is founded by Matthew Hartnett, a highly experienced educator and wellbeing specialist. Matthew is married to Claire and is the father of three daughters, Grace, Olivia and Tess.

Matthew holds a Master of Applied Positive Psychology and a Professional Certificate of Positive Psychology, both through the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts through the Australian Catholic University.  He is also a licenced user of the Mental Toughness Questionnaire and a Certified Mental Coach through Mental Training Inc.

Having spent over two decades in education and both coaching and participating in a variety of sports (five time Ironman triathlon finisher), Matthew has long understood the importance of the mind and how one’s emotions can impact the performance and wellbeing of individuals.

The relationship one has with their thoughts and the magnitude of mental toughness is of vital importance and can never be understated.

So whether you are in the sporting, educational, corporate or performing arts sector, Matthew embraces your approach to come together to connect, collaborate and discover the potential that lies within you or your team.

Many of the principles that Matthew communicated, I include in my day-to-day coaching including increased awareness, acceptance, values-driven behaviours and self-compassion.

Matthew is highly knowledgeable in the science of positive psychology and his care and understanding of athletes needs is first rate.”
