Performance Enhancement
The signature service of Off The Matt is the Mindfulness and Acceptance Approach to Peak Performance program. Strategically fusing together the ground-breaking work of Gardiner and Moore’s Mindfulness, Acceptance, Commitment Approach, Kaufman, Glass and Pineau’s Mindful Sport Performance Enhancement, Baltzell and Summer’s Mindfulness Mediation Training in Sport Program and Henriksen, Hansen and Larsen’s Mindfulness and Acceptance in Sport, this program specifically intends to:
- Enhance attention and concentration: the capacity to pay attention and concentrate on task relevant information as needed.
- Developing poise: the ability to act in the service of values and goals despite negative internal states such as thoughts, emotions and physical sensations that the athlete may be experiencing. Poise can also be referred to as mental toughness.
- Cultivate self-compassion: the ability to be in touch with your own suffering and generate a desire to alleviate this suffering by treating yourself with understanding and concern (Neff and Germer, 2013).
- Improved wellbeing: the state of flourishing, that being, optimal human functioning.
This program is offered to individuals or to small groups and comprises six sessions of approximately an hour in length.
Mental Toughness Presentation and Assessment
Mental toughness, a personality trait which determines, in some part, how individuals respond when exposed to stressors, pressure and challenge, irrespective of the prevailing situation, is unpacked in a 60 minute session. Within this presentation, Matthew outlines the following:
- Defining Mental Toughness
- Origins of Mental Toughness
- Applications of Mental Toughness
- The Four Components of The Mental Toughness Model
- Research, Philosophy and Relationship with other Concepts
- Using the MTQPlus
- Handling Feedback
Included in part of the session, attendees are given the opportunity to assess their own Mental Toughness by completing the MTQPlus. This assessment is a unique 68 item, high-quality psychometric measure that measures the mindset that an individual adopts when dealing with life’s challenges and demands. It is closely related to qualities such as character, resilience and grit.
This presentation is offered for those in the education, sporting, corporate or performing arts sectors where mental toughness is critical to success and wellbeing.
